Pirot Medley - Serbian Medley 2
Što Mi Omilelo
Pošla Rumena
Lile Lile
Piperana
Serbia

These notes ©2017, Andrew Carnie. This is a  medley of Serbian Dances. Taught in the USA by Dick Crum in the early 1950s. It is based on a choreography by the Kolo Ensemble.

Music:
  • Jugoton C-6297 "Igre iz pirotskog kraja"
  • Festival KF 106
Meter: 2/4, 9/8
Formation: Open circle, hands down in V position. Leads R. Everyone holds a hankerchief in Right hand
Introduction: Start with singing.

Što Mi Omilelo

Meter 2/4
Bar 1: Step R (1), L (2) in LOD
Bar 2: Step R in LOD (1), čukče on R and touch L next to R (2)
Bars 3-4: Repeat bars 1-2, but with opposite footwork, and  backing up in RLOD
Bars 5-8: repeat the footwork of bars 1-4, but traveling in into the center and backing up out of the center
Bar 9-10: Facing center, drop hands with neighbor, bring R hand with handkerchief up to R shoulder, then bend at waist sweeping handkerchief diagonally forward to the R, and up, while straightening up. Shout oh-oh!
Bars 11-12:  repeat bending of bars 9-10, but sweep hand down and back to L (retracing sweep of bars 9-10), shout eee-eee!
Bar 13: Standing straight, put R hand up to R and shout eee-you!

There is widespread variation over how bars 1-8 are done:
  • Some groups turn to face RLOD on bars 3-4
  • Some groups reverse 1-4 and 5-8 (i.e. they go in and out, and then in LOD and back.)
  • Crum's original notes have a kick rather than a touch on count (2) of bars 2 and 4.
