Trabzoni Bar - Տրաբզոնի պար (Armenia)

Trabzoni Bar
Տրաբզոնի պար
Armenia

These notes ©2018, Andrew Carnie based on Tineke van Geel's teaching at a workshop in Tucson AZ. These notes were created with Tineke's notes open in front of me, so they are heavily influenced by her notes.  The dance is from Trabzond, which is now in Turkey. The dance was choreographed by Tineke based on traditional steps she learned in her field work.

Music:  Muradian Ensemble, Anoush (van Geel Records): https://youtu.be/mJDaXG_cdJg
Meter: 2/4
Formation: Short Lines, Hands start down in V position, but standing close to one another. Leads to the R. The leader of the line extends their R hand up to R in the air.
Introduction: 4 bars no action.

Bar 1: Cross L over R, arms snap up to W position (1), Step on R to R, the arms snap down down to V Position (2)
Bar 2: Repeat bar 1
Bar 3: Turn to face LOD, put L hand in small of back ("debka position"). R hand continues to hold the left hand of the person in front of you. Bounce down with weight on L foot, but both feet on the ground (1), Bounce again (2), Bounce again (&)
Bar 4: Retaining debka hold, step R forward in LOD (1), Close L next to R (&), Step R forward in LOD (2)
Bar 5: Repeat bar 4 with opposite footwork
Bar 6: Walk R (1), L (2) in LOD
Bar 7: Repeat bar 4
Bar 8: Kertzi Step: Turn to face center, hop on R foot, lifting L, Arms come up to W position (1), Touch L heel forward as arms come up and above head (extend to straight arms) and forward (&), Step L in place, and arms come down to V position (2), Step on R in place (&)

Men can shout "Hey" "Hey" on the & counts in bars 1 and 2.
Women can shout Ver-cheen. (When Tineke taught it to us, she had us do this at anytime. In other notes it says they only do this in the last time through the dance).

Watch Nancy, who is in the lead for the best styling and timing.

Note the dancers in the following video do not do the dance exactly as we learned it from Tineke. In bar 3, Tineke did not do the little kick back that these dancers do. In Bar 8, Tineke taught us to lift our hands up and over our heads before bringing them down.
