Ispajče HoroИспайче Хоро Pirin Macedonia/Bulgaria
These notes ©2018, Andrew Carnie. Originally taught by Steve Kotansky. I learned it from Gerry Spinks. The dance is from the Pirin (Macedonian) region of Bulgaria.
Music
Meter: 13/16 counted as (1,2,3) (4,5) (6,7,8) (9,10) (11,12,13), or SQSQS (The dance can also be done to other krivo rhythms, with slightly different accentuation)
Formation: Open circle, Hands in W position, leads R. Men can also do it in a shoulder hold, and women in V position, the two lines connected by holding a handkerchief.
Introduction: Start whenever the leader signals
Bar 2: Facing center, lift and pump R foot down (S), Čukče on L, and swing R around in the direction of LOD (Q). Facing slightly R of center, Step on R in LOD (S), Step on L into the center (Q), Rock back in place on R (S)
Bar 3: Facing center, lift and pump L foot down (S), Čukče on R, and swing L around behind L calf (Q), Rock back on L crossing behind R (S), Step on R in LOD (Q), Cross L over R (S)
Kotansky's notes also include two variations, which we don't do in Tucson:
Bar 3: Facing center, lift and pump L foot down (S), Čukče on R swinging L to L (Q), Step L to L (S), Cross R over L (Q), Rock back in place on L (S) [This is essentially the mirror image of bar 2]
