These notes were created with Tineke's notes open in front of me, so they are heavily influenced by her notes. Shoror dances involve a swaying of the body. Shatag is a region which used to be inhabited by Armenians. It is now in Modern Turkey, near Lake Van. Formation: Open Circle Hands in pinky finger hold. Start in "Debka" hold (Facing LOD, L hand in small of back, R hand holding person in front of you's L hand)
Introduction: 8 bars no action
"Bounce" here means to bend and straighten the knee.
Part 1
Bar 1: Facing LOD with feet spaced apart [Tineke said "imagine you're wearing a diaper"), step on L slightly into the center but moving forward in LOD, Body leans to the R, bend knees as stepping (1) straighten knees (&), Bounce bending knees (2), Straighten (&) [From this point forward I will not indicate the "Straightens", but every step has a "double bounce" to it as described in this bar]Bar 2: Step R slightly out of center but moving forward in LOD (1), Bounce (2)
Bars 3-8: Repeat bars 1-2, three more times (total of 4)
Bar 9: Turn to face center, and step on L into the center, arms come up to W position (1), bounce (2)
Bar 10: Touch ball of R foot next to L (1), bounce (2)
Bar 11: Turning back to face LOD, with arms going back to debka position, Step on R (1), bounce (2)
Bar 12: Touch ball of L foot next to R (1), bounce (2)
Bars 13-14: repeat bars 9-10
Bar 15: Repeat Bar 10 (do a second touch), except arms come up over head, forward and down to V position.
Bar 16: Backing up step R (1), Step L next to R (2), end facing center with R foot free.
Part 2
Bar 1: Facing center, hands are in low W position. Step on R to R, body leans slightly to the L, Look at R hand, arms move very slightly to the R (1) bounce (2)Bar 2: Close L next to R, straighten body and look forward (1), bounce (2)
Bars 3-6: Repeat bars 1-2, two more times (total of 4)
Bar 7: Repeat bar 1:
Bar 8: Touch L next to R, no weight. Arms and body are as in bar 2 (1), bounce (2)
Bar 9: Step on L into the center, arms come up to W position (1), bounce (2)
Bar 10: Touch ball of R foot next to L (1), bounce (2)
Bar 11: Turning back to face LOD, with arms going back to debka position, Step on R (1), bounce (2)
Bar 12: Touch ball of L foot next to R (1), bounce (2)
Bars 13-14: repeat bars 9-10
Bar 15: Repeat Bar 10 (do a second touch), except arms come up over head, forward and down to V position.
Bar 16: Step on R, turning to face LOD and returning hands to debka position (1), touch ball of L next to R (2), end facing LOD with L foot free.
Alternate the figures until the end of the music.
