Natalja (Tököl Version)НаталjаSerbia/Hungary
These notes ©2017, Andrew Carnie. Learned by Nancy Bannister from László Halász on a tour to Hungary led by Steve Kotansky. The dance is a Rác (Serbian) dances from Tököl, Hungary. A slightly different dance was taught in the US in the 1950s and 60s under the title Natalijino Kolo, by the Hermans and Dick Crum. It is closely related to Malo Kolo. Versions of the dance are also called Natalijino Kolo and Natalija. It is named in honor of Queen Natalija, who ruled Serbia in the late 1800s with her husband King Milan. The dance is part of the "ballroom" tradition of urban kolo dances from the turn of the last century.
